Purpose
Everything, so we’re led to believe – has purpose.
.. And so, it follows, this blog will also have purpose, although at the present time – this being my very first post, I’m open to how it will shape up! Did I plan to start this blog? ‘No’. Is it something I’ve thought of before? ‘Yes’ – many times, but not for several years.
.. And so, somewhere in-between the ‘no’ and the ‘yes’, is the reason that I now find myself here writing, .. to as yet, an unknown audience – including you!
There’s a note in that curious little book Notes to Myself, by Hugh Prather – which goes some way towards how I’m feeling about this venture.
‘After I had written this book I told several friends. Their reaction was polite and mild. Later I was able to tell them the book was going to be published. Most of them responded with the words “I’m proud of you.” Proud of the results but not of the action.
… I must act now without knowing the results. Thus I give my actions their only possible meaning for me. And true meaning always issues from “I choose to respond to this part of me and not to that part …” ‘
Of course blogging now allows us all to publish! Perhaps in a small way, through this blog, I can experience the satisfaction of choosing to respond ‘to this part of me, rather than that part’ – by writing about what I find interesting, useful, and enjoyable – in the knowledge also that it may be of value also to you the reader. I hope so.
